Alfred Jarry (seen on the right), the first
pataphysician, was also a very keen fisherman who loved to fish the Seine from
his beloved skiff.
Jarry defined
'pataphysics as "the science of imaginary solutions, which symbolically
attributes the properties of objects, described by their virtuality, to their
lineaments". Look at the shadow cast by Jarry’s skiff. Jarry fished from a
fish, was seriously pataphysical even when “in Seine”. I don’t know whether or
not that other great pataphysician, Raymond Quaneau, fished, but his name is
pronounced canoe.
